Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has announced significant infrastructure plans aimed at boosting urban development across the state. During a review meeting of the Public Works Department (PWD) at the Mantralaya, the Chief Minister declared that the cities of Jabalpur and Gwalior will soon be officially notified as ‘Metropolitan Areas’.
The move is intended to accelerate economic growth and streamline urban planning in these key regions. Dr. Yadav emphasized that the development of these cities requires a robust network of connectivity. Consequently, he directed officials to increase the density of highways in these cities and their surrounding areas.
Vision Document for Infrastructure
Setting a clear mandate for the department, the Chief Minister instructed PWD officials to prepare a comprehensive ‘Vision Document’. He stressed that this roadmap must adhere to national-level standards to ensure high-quality infrastructure development.
Dr. Yadav highlighted the critical role of connectivity in the state’s progress. He remarked that roads should not be viewed merely as a means of transport but as vital arteries for economic and social development. The focus, he noted, must be on creating infrastructure that supports the state’s long-term growth trajectory.
Focus on Connectivity
The review meeting focused heavily on upgrading the existing road networks to match the requirements of future metropolitan hubs. By enhancing highway density around Gwalior and Jabalpur, the administration aims to improve logistics, reduce travel time, and attract investment to these regions.
This announcement aligns with the state government’s broader agenda to modernize infrastructure and decentralize development beyond the capital, ensuring balanced growth across Madhya Pradesh.
