FASTag KYV : With FASTag now a mandatory requirement for seamless travel across Indian highways, the government has introduced a crucial update for vehicle owners. The ‘Know Your Vehicle’ (KYV) process has been made compulsory for all FASTag-enabled vehicles.
This initiative aims to streamline the toll collection system. By ensuring accurate vehicle data is linked to the tag, authorities hope to eliminate common issues such as double deductions, system mismatches, and unnecessary interruptions at toll plazas. Without a valid FASTag, commuters are liable to pay double the toll amount as a penalty.
Is there a fee for FASTag KYV?
A significant confusion among vehicle owners revolves around the cost of this mandatory update. Given that the process is compulsory, many assume there will be an administrative fee attached.
However, officials have clarified that the entire KYV process is completely free of cost. Banks and FASTag issuing agencies do not charge any fee for updating vehicle details. The primary objective is simply to correct and verify system records, ensuring smoother transactions for the user.
Vehicle owners are advised to complete this verification promptly to avoid potential operational issues with their tags in the future.
Step-by-step process for verification
Completing the KYV process is digital and can be done from home. Users need to access the official portal or mobile application of their respective bank or FASTag provider.
Follow these steps:
1. Log in to the provider’s app or website and locate the ‘KYV’ or ‘Vehicle Verification’ section.
2. Follow the on-screen instructions to initiate the request.
3. Upload clear photographs of the vehicle from multiple angles.
4. Ensure one photograph clearly shows the FASTag affixed properly to the windshield.
5. Upload a scanned copy of the Registration Certificate (RC) and fill in any pending details.
Once the documents are submitted, the verification takes place at the backend. According to the standard timeline, the process typically takes about seven days to complete. Users will receive status updates regarding their application via SMS or email and can track the progress directly on the portal.
